My name is Jeremy Thomley and I am a sculptor. The inspiration for this art exhibit “Anthem” comes from my adventures with a lung disease called Cystic Fibrosis(CF). CF affects a lot of things- We suffer from a thickened mucus that causes infection and obstructed airways and great difficulty absorbing nutrients from food. Altho medicine has made leaps in progress since 1982 when I was diagnosed, breathing does not come easy. Telling this story is not easy. Suppose I told you breath has a color, it has a texture. Breath even has a sound. Sometimes the hammer of my cough sings all night and then all week. Its deep like thunder in my chest. I have focused on ribs of steel to capture and protect the most precious thing in my life. Anthem is a body of sculpture- a body of work. While no man can breathe for another, they can offer protection and balance during the fight. My family and beautiful friends have helped me to gather momentum and courage.
Think of the hands that moved upon glass, wood and steel. Anthem is the artistic consequences of talented friends and big dreams. This is sculpture inspired by adventure. Breathe deep…My Anthem is Breath.
